SSD Replacement Experience
1. Initial Setup
- Rented a Kimsufi KS-B server:
- CPU: Intel Xeon E5-1620v2
- RAM: 32 GB DDR3 ECC
- Storage: 120 GB SSD
- Initial system setup was smooth and functional.
2. Issue Discovered
- Ran SMART diagnostics and noticed:
- Very high Power-On Hours (~77,000+)
- Indication of aging or reused SSD
- Though SMART status was "PASSED", concerns arose regarding reliability.
3. Support Contacted
- Submitted a ticket to OVH Support requesting disk replacement.
- Provided:
- Serial number of faulty disk
- Full SMART report
- Confirmation of data backup
- Preferred schedule for intervention
4. Support Response
- OVH's response was slow but professional.
- Multiple follow-ups were required.
- Eventually, an intervention was scheduled by the datacenter team.
5. Disk Replacement
- The SSD was successfully replaced.
- New disk:
- Model: Intel SSDSC2BB120G4
- Better health and lower wear
- Server was rebooted into rescue mode.
6. Post-Replacement Checks
- Ran
smartctlto verify:- No reallocated sectors
- Zero errors
- Acceptable wear level
- Reinstalled OS and conducted benchmarks (YABS):
- Stable disk I/O performance (~200 MB/s)
- No anomalies detected
7. Final Feedback

- ⚠️ Negative: Support was slow to respond, required persistence
